GENERAL MANAGER – LNG & COAL POWER PLANT
(National – Site Based)

Some of your duties will include:

• Responsible for the overall management, coordination, and performance of our coal power plant and LNG power plant; To ensure uninterrupted and reliable power supply to support our mining operations, mineral processing plants, and other facilities; Lead a team of senior leaders, skilled professionals and collaborate with various departments to maintain the highest levels of safety, efficiency, and environmental compliance;
• Coal Power Plant Operations & Strategy:
• Develop and implement a long-term strategic plan for the coal power plant, outlining expansion opportunities, modernization initiatives, and integration with emerging technologies.
• Evaluate and negotiate coal procurement contracts to ensure a stable and cost-effective fuel supply, considering both short-term and long-term market conditions.
• Explore and assess opportunities for carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS) technologies to enhance the plant’s environmental performance and meet sustainability targets.
• Collaborate with research institutions and industry partners to stay at the forefront of clean coal technologies, aiming for higher efficiency and lower emissions.
• Conduct regular risk assessments to identify potential challenges and market disruptions, and devise contingency plans to mitigate their impact on plant operations.
• Monitor global coal market trends, geopolitical developments, and regulatory changes to inform strategic decisions related to the coal power plant.
• LNG Power Plant Operations & Strategy:
• Formulate a comprehensive strategy for the LNG power plant, including capacity expansion plans, optimized LNG sourcing, and integration of liquefaction capabilities if applicable.
• Stay abreast of developments in natural gas markets, LNG supply chains, and pricing dynamics to optimize LNG procurement strategies and minimize costs.
• Lead the exploration and implementation of cutting-edge technologies in LNG liquefaction, regasification, and storage processes to improve plant efficiency and flexibility.
• Collaborate with relevant authorities and suppliers to ensure a reliable and consistent supply of LNG, minimizing supply chain risks and disruptions.
• Investigate the potential for LNG as a transport fuel and explore partnerships with the transportation sector to create synergies and foster sustainable energy usage.
• Evaluate opportunities to integrate the LNG power plant with the broader energy infrastructure, such as LNG terminals or virtual pipelines, to enhance energy resilience.
• Performance Optimization
• Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) for energy generation and consumption, regularly monitoring and reporting on performance.
• Lead initiatives to enhance the efficiency and reliability of both power plants while minimizing environmental impact.
• Implement advanced data analytics and predictive maintenance to optimize energy production and reduce downtime.
• Operational Excellence:
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure smooth energy operations, integrating power plant ctivities seamlessly with mining and processing operations.
• Implement best practices and standardized processes across energy operations to drive efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
• Drive a culture of continuous improvement, fostering innovation and creativity within the energy team.
• Capital Investment Planning:
• Collaborate with finance and senior management to develop capital investment plans for upgrading and expanding energy infrastructure.
• Prioritize projects based on strategic importance, financial viability, and alignment with the company’s mission.
• What skills and experience do you need?
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Energy Management, or a related field. An advanced degree or MBA is highly desirable.
• Minimum of 20 years of progressive experience in the energy sector, with a strong focus on power plant operations, energy management, and strategic leadership.
• Proven track record of successfully overseeing and managing complex power plant operations, including both coal and LNG power plants;
• In-depth knowledge of energy market dynamics, emerging trends, and regulatory frameworks related to power generation and distribution.
• Extensive experience in developing and executing long-term energy strategies for large-scale operations, with a demonstrated ability to adapt strategies to changing market conditions.
• Strong financial acumen and experience in developing capital investment plans for energy infrastructure projects.
• Solid understanding of advanced technologies and digitalization trends in energy operations, including predictive maintenance, data analytics, and smart grid solutions.
• Exceptional leadership skills, with a track record of building high-performing teams and fostering a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.
• Proven experience in engaging with diverse stakeholders, including government officials, industry partners, energy suppliers, and community representatives.
• Ability to think strategically and anticipate future energy demands, aligning energy goals with the overall corporate strategy.
• Demonstrated ability to navigate complex challenges in the energy sector, including market fluctuations, regulatory changes, and environmental concerns.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a data-driven and results-oriented approach to decision-making.
• Excellent communication and presentation abilities, capable of conveying complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Proven commitment to safety, environmental stewardship, and sustainable energy practices.
