PROTECTION ASSISTANT (G-6)
Vacancy Number & Duty Station: 10/INSJA/001 – Pontianak

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
In close co ordination with relevant authorities such as immigration and police officers in areas covered by Pontianak, the Protection Assistant is responsible for ensuring access to asylum procedures by individual cases; Initiates and undertakes eligibility assessments for individual cases and reports to the Reviewing Officer based in Jakarta; Informs and acts on reports received from asylum seekers, refugees and local authorities; Liaises with local authorities including immigration and police to follow up training activities on protection and assistance of refugees/asylum seekers registration system and statistics: Acts as interpreter and translator; Assists in durable solution activities; & performs other duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: Complete secondary education but preferably University Degree in International Law. Political Studies or related disciplines, with minimum of 4 years previous job experience in same functional area, and good grasp of human rights. Experience of working in a multi-cultural environment is an added asset

LANGUAGE: Proficiency in Bahasa Indonesia and English (written and oral) essential, knowledge of other language is an asset.

DESSIRABLE SKILLS: communication, good knowledge of UNHCR’s protection mandate, excellent writing, good interviewing skills, legal background or equivalent.

OTHERS: computer literate with proficiency in using office equipment (fax, telephone, typewriter, photocopy, etc.)
